Pompous Deception

Pompous Deception

Where are your affections? That’s an important question because it governs your everyday actions. You make life decisions based on your affections.

I am amazed at some believers who say they are Christians but their affections speak something different. There is a big gap between those who say they are Christians and those who really believe that their Christianity is important to them.

According to Barna research done in 2016 ,73% of Americans identify as being Christians but only 31% say that religion is important to them. That’s from people that attended church service at least once a month.

Wow! what a sad commentary on people in America who profess faith in Jesus.

Jesus is calling us to complete affection towards Him. He is really demanding that our allegiance be totally and completely to him. I love the way this particular verse reads in a translation I really have not used much but its impactful.

15 Don’t fall in love with this corrupt world or worship the things it can offer. Those who love its corrupt ways don’t have the Father’s love living within them. 16 All the things the world can offer to you—the allure of pleasure, the passion to have things, and the pompous sense of superiority—do not come from the Father. These are the rotten fruits of this world. 17 This corrupt world is already wasting away, as are its selfish desires. But the person really doing Go’s will—that person will never cease to be.” I John 2:15 – 17 (Voice)

love the world

What a statement! It says if you love the world you don’t have the fathers love in you! So some Christians today are living in self-deception thinking they are right with God but all the time not really connected to Him. I love the part also that says that the world offers a “pompous sense of superiority.” Some people because of their worldly achievements stick their chest out and brag about how great they are. All that stuff is going to pass away with the lust of it. Those who do the will of God and love Jesus with their whole heart will always outlast the “pompous sense of superiority” crowd.  So quietly increase your stock in heaven’s economy by loving Jesus from the heart and you will see the rest take care of itself!
