Perfecting Your Craft

Perfecting Your Craft

I did not watch it but I saw the news that Tiger Woods won the Masters this past weekend. Through all the trial and hardships he went through, much of it self-inflicted, he seems to have come all the way back! The last time he won the Masters was in 2005, wow some 14 years ago!

It sure is a lesson in never giving up on your dreams no matter how it looks. Most pundits said he was washed up and should retire but it seems they forgot to tell him.

I don’t want to make this whole blog about Tiger Woods but I am wanting to make a point.

My point is that I heard someone tell how much time he puts into his craft and I was amazed! Just for putting they said it was 3 hours a day. Here is a breakdown of his daily routine:

  • Two hours of driving range work and on-course swing work in the morning, followed by 30 minutes to an hour of putting practice.
  • Around noon, play nine holes.
  • In the afternoon, another 3-4 hours of on-course work focusing on the swing and short game. The afternoon session sometimes includes another nine holes playing golf.

Add weight training to that also. That’s some schedule to keep up with!

I just thought about it these last couple of days, to put that much time and effort into winning a green jacket and trophy that will one day get old and deteriorate. One day it will go back to the dust of the earth.

Finally here is my point, I thought about how it’s a shame before God Almighty that we can’t even get some spiritual leaders to pray at least one hour a day.

What is wrong with that picture?

We as believers in Jesus and leaders need to realize that God wants our dedication. The level of dedication some of us put into our spiritual craft is so low it’s laughable. No wonder we don’t see the success in our christian walk that we desire. We must keep in our consciousness that our dedication is to something that’s eternal that will never get rusty, old or go back into the dirt.

Things of the spirit are much more real and important than things in the natural.

Here’s what the word of God has to say about it:

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. Romans 8:5-6 (ESV).

Our mindset needs to be on spiritual things to perfect our craft!

We really ought to be doing way more than Tiger Woods or any other professional sports person could ever think about doing concerning their craft!

There was a godly man by the name of Father Nash in the early 1800’s that would go into a city, rent out a room and lay prostrate before the Lord for hours without eating to bring major revivals to cities.

Daniel Nash great man of prayer.

He went ahead of Evangelist Charles Finney’s meetings and the results were amazing to say the least! Thousands saved and set free because one man got serious about his spiritual craft!

Where are those examples today? Men and women that would spend all night in prayer if the need arose to see God move and transform a major city for God. We need people with great dedication.

Greater than any dedication that Tiger Woods could ever dream about. How about you!!!
