“We are too much attached to our own petty concerns, and too little concerned for the glory of God.”
John Newton August 1725 – December 1807
John Newton was a English Anglican clergyman who was a sailor in the Royal Navy and later became captain of slave ships. After his salvation and writing the song “Amazing Grace” he turned from the slave trade and supported the abolitionist movement. He lived to see Britain abolish the African slave trade.
